In this workshop, you will learn all you need to know to begin and advance your slide guitar playing and emotional expression. The workshop will introduce the songs and licks of blues slide guitar masters Robert Johnson and Mississippi Fred McDowell.  Other topics covered will include types of slides, guitar setup, playing clean notes, rhythmic patterns, vibrato and right and left hand damping techniques. Bring your guitar, a slide and an audio or video recorder.  This class is for beginner through intermediate slide players.

About the Instructor:

Donna Herula is a Chicago-born singer and acoustic blues slide guitarist that has a passion for playing traditional Delta, country and Chicago Blues.  Her sound combines her love for music of the Deep South with her love of blues guitar improvisation.

Acoustic Guitar Magazine named Donna one of the “top 10 up and coming resonator guitar players” and featured her in an article, “Down and Dirty: 10 contemporary resonator players talk about their love for that nasty sound.”

Donna is a regular performer at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago and has opened for Buddy Guy multiple times.  She is also a teacher at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago where she teaches Acoustic Slide Guitar.  Donna has provided numerous educational blues programs in the Chicago area and has been inspired by blues men and women, including Son House, Johnny Winter and Rory Block.
