Full Text of JOE Listing:

The òòò½Íø is seeking an economics writer/web content developer with a background in economics and an interest in research published in top academic journals like the òòò½Íø Review and the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

You will be working with our web editor to interpret the latest economics studies for a broad online audience, writing pieces for the òòò½Íø website in the style of an explainer article that might appear on FiveThirtyEight , Vox , or The Upshot . You will use relevant data to create visualizations that will help build interest in the studies appearing in the association’s journals. You will also help promote recent studies on the òòò½Íø twitter feed by connecting them to coverage in the popular press. This is a great opportunity to develop writing skills, build a portfolio of published work, and deepen your knowledge of economics across a variety of fields. This is a newly created position.

Duties:
âž” Plan, research, and write highlights of articles appearing in òòò½Íø journals similar to our current series: /research/
âž” Create data visualizations using software like Stata, R, and Python
âž” Track news coverage of our studies and related topics, and help promote upcoming research on Twitter
âž” Assist with planning and researching for a new òòò½Íø podcast
âž” Create and maintain an editorial calendar to ensure maximum impact for research highlights and other content
âž” Work with òòò½Íø marketing to produce advertisements and promotions for an economics audience
âž” Contribute to other writing and editing projects as needed

Requirements:
âž” Background in economics with broad understanding of the discipline and subfields
âž” Ability to understand, analyze, and accurately interpret top-flight economic research such as studies appearing in the òòò½Íø Review is a must
âž” Master’s degree in economics or plans to do graduate work in the future a plus
âž” Excellent writing and editing skills
âž” Background or experience in journalism preferred
âž” Experience and comfort working with data using tools like Excel, the FRED database, Stata, R, and Python
âž” Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive in a team environment
