The Department of Social and Political Sciences is inviting applications for an Assistant Professor position in Economic and Social history. The ideal candidate does high-quality research on long-term historical processes, including those characterizing the preindustrial period, and has demonstrable ability to work with primary (archival) sources. The appointment begins September 2026.
To complement the strengths of the Department, candidates engaged in research employing rigorous quantitative analysis are preferred. Candidates should show evidence of a promising research agenda commensurate with their career stage, and should be doing work that engages multiple fields of study in the Department— economic history, demography, political science, sociology, applied economics, public administration, health. Candidates should also be able to teach courses in economic history at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Bocconi University is a leading European research and teaching institution in economics, social sciences, and related disciplines. In the 2025 QS World University Ranking of Social Sciences and Management, Bocconi ranked 4th in Europe and 12th worldwide. The Department provides an ideal interdisciplinary research environment. It comprises about 60 tenured or tenure-track faculty who share interest in policy-relevant research, addressing questions on challenges like inequality, government responsiveness, accountability, corruption and crime, environmental sustainability, global health, and cooperation.
