Economist – Burning Glass Institute (Remote, Full-Time)
We are seeking an Economist to join our team immediately. In this role, you will design and lead research on U.S. labor markets, worker mobility, education, and firm behavior. You’ll work with large datasets—including millions of job postings, worker histories, and government data—using econometric methods, Python (preferred) or R, SQL, and cloud-based platforms. Candidates with experience in machine learning or natural language processing applied to economic data are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates who are eager to implement modern data-science and AI techniques to bear on economic questions will be especially well positioned to succeed in this role.
This position reports to the Chief Economist and offers opportunities for independent research, collaboration with partners, and thought leadership.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in economics, data science, or related quantitative field
Extensive experience with econometric analysis, data wrangling, and working with large datasets
Strong Proficiency in Python (preferred) and/or R
Ability to design and execute independent research
Experience interpreting data for technical and non-technical audiences
Familiarity with Census, BLS, or other public-use datasets
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate interest in labor market dynamics, policy, and workforce development.
