The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) invites applications for the position of Economist / Senior Economist / Principal Economist in its Monetary and Economic Department (MED). We are looking for talented candidates to join our global team.

As a forum for global central bank cooperation, the BIS plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among the world’s central banks. Economists in MED conduct cutting-edge research and provide in-depth analysis of key policy issues, serving as a hub for the central banking community. Their work reaches a global audience, including senior policymakers in central banks and supervisory authorities, academic researchers, policy experts, and financial market professionals.

By joining MED as an Economist / Senior Economist / Principal Economist you will have the opportunity to:

• conduct innovative research on a wide range of topics relevant to central banks and regulators,
• contribute to the preparation of policy notes for high-level meetings of central bank officials,
• participate in policy committees and working groups,
• provide expert advise to senior management within your area of expertise,

Qualifications and requirements:

• a PhD in economics or finance, preferably in the areas headlined (Macroeconomics and Monetary Economics, International Finance, General Financial Markets, Financial Institutions and Services);
• a genuine interest in policy-oriented research;
• proven track record in identifying and addressing complex policy issues; and
• excellent writing and communication skills in English.
