The Department of Economics in the Miller College of Business invites applications for two Assistant Teaching Professors to teach in an innovative dual-degree program in digital economics, developed in partnership with Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) in Guangzhou, China. Students study at GDUT for three years with GDUT and BSU faculty, then complete their fourth year at BSU.
Position Details:
Full-time, non-tenure-track teaching positions based at Ball State University with primary teaching assignment in Guangzhou, China. When not teaching in China, faculty teach at BSU. Positions begin August 2026. Teaching in China is eligible for a stipend in addition to base salary.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate economics and quantitative courses, potentially including Elementary/Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Business Statistics, Introduction to the Digital Economy, Information Economics, Platform Economics, Probability, Mathematical Statistics, Economic Big Data Mining and Analytics, Data Analytics and Software Application, and Python Programming. Collaborate with the program director on curriculum design, implementation, and improvement. Develop syllabi, course materials, and assessments. Provide academic mentoring to students, particularly regarding preparation for study at BSU, and support students' cultural and academic transition to U.S.-style coursework. Participate in program meetings, assessment, and accreditation activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Economics or related discipline (e.g., Agricultural Economics, Finance with strong economics training, Statistics or Data Analytics with substantial economics coursework) from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of full-time teaching experience. Demonstrated effectiveness teaching undergraduate economics or quantitative courses. Ability and willingness to live and teach in Guangzhou, China, for at least one semester. Prior international teaching experience or experience working with international students, particularly from China.
