Subject: Annual Meeting Early Registration Deadline and Other Announcements

Register now for the ASSA 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting. The fee for registration increases from $60 to $100 after midnight on December 3, 2020. Register at /conference.

òòò½Íø Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion. Time is running out for departments and organizations to apply for this new annual award, which recognizes units that demonstrate outstanding achievement in diversity and inclusion practices. Focus will be on those taking productive steps to establish new programs and procedures to create an inclusive environment, and to increase the participation of underrepresented racial/ethnic minorities, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Award winners, up to four per year, are announced at the òòò½Íø Awards Ceremony and Presidential Address during the ASSA Meeting, and will be listed on the òòò½Íø Honors and Awards, JOE Network, and Resources for Students webpages. Winners will also be given early access to the reservation system for ASSA hotel space for ten years following award receipt. The deadline has been extended to December 10, 2020. The award is open to all U.S. based departments of economics and other organizations employing significant numbers of economists. The òòò½Íø's 2021 Continuing Education Program will be held virtually January 6-7, 2021. Participants can choose from three concurrent programs. Topics and speakers will include:

  • Industrial Organization – Steven Berry (Yale University), Philip Haile (Yale University) (This course will run January 6 – 8, 2021).
  • Labor and Applied Econometrics – Patrick Kline (University of California – Berkeley), Christopher Walters (University of California – Berkeley)
  • Markets for Innovation: Market Failures and Public Policies – Kevin Bryan (University of Toronto),  Heidi Williams (Stanford University)

The Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession is pleased to announce the application portal for the 2021 òòò½Íø Summer Program, to be hosted by Howard University in Washington DC, is now open. The òòò½Íø Summer Program is a prestigious program that uniquely enables students to prepare for the rigors of graduate studies—particularly at the PhD level—through two months of intensive training in microeconomics, math, econometrics and research methods with leading faculty.
