òòò½Íø's Continuing Education Program will be held on January 8-10, 2017 at the Loews, Chicago, immediately after the annual meeting. The topics are:

  • Cross-Section Econometrics (Alberto Abadie and Joshua Angrist, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Christopher Walters, University of California, Berkeley)
  • Behavorial Finance (Nicholas Barberis, Yale University, and Ulrike Malmendier, University of California, Berkeley)
  • Industrial Organization (Daniel Ackerberg, University of Michigan, Aviv Nevo, University of Pennsylvania, and Ariel Pakes, Harvard University)

strong>òòò½Íø is hosting a breakfast and discussion for LGBT economists and allies facilitated by Lee Badgett (U-Mass Amherst) and Christopher S. Carpenter (Vanderbilt) at the ASSA meetings on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 7-8 am in the Comiskey Room, West Tower, Bronze Level, of the Hyatt Regency. Topics will include: 1) best practices for employers in recruiting LGBT economists; 2) navigating the job market as an LGBT economist; and 3) creating a newsletter for LGBT economists. All òòò½Íø meeting registrants are invited, including PhD students and economists working in any type of setting (academic, government, think tank, private sector, etc.). Economists interested in these issues who are unable to attend the breakfast can contact Badgett (lbadgett@econs.umass.edu) or Carpenter (christopher.s.carpenter@vanderbilt.edu) directly for more information.

Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP) invites your participation in CSWEP's events at the 2017 òòò½Íø/ASSA Meetings in Chicago, including two Mentoring Breakfasts for Junior Economists, a Peer Mentoring Breakfast for Mid-Career Economists, and the CSWEP Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony. òòò½Íø Summer Training Program & Scholarship Program increases diversity by preparing talented undergraduates for doctoral programs in Economics and related disciplines. Students receive 8 weeks of intensive training in microeconomics, mathematics, and research methods with leading faculty hosted at Michigan State University in collaboration with Western Michigan University. Nominations for òòò½Íø òòò½Íø' Best Paper Prizes. Suggestions for the annual \"Best Paper\" prizes for the òòò½Íø's four òòò½Íø òòò½Íø can be made electronically at /aej/bestpapernominations.php, starting December 1, 2016. The awards will be announced in April 2017, selected from articles published in the 2014 through 2016 volumes of each AEJ. New òòò½Íø Member Benefit. Beginning January 1, 2017, all òòò½Íø members will receive complimentary access to back issues of òòò½Íø journals on JSTOR. JSTOR provides electronic copies of back issues of the AER, JEL, JEP, and the four òòò½Íø òòò½Íø. Look for access information in January!
