2027 Allied Social Sciences Association Meeting

The 2027 Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting will be held in Washington, DC, on January 3-5, 2027. The annual meeting is an opportunity to build your professional knowledge, collaborate with colleagues, share in research and discussion, and establish connections with peers and mentors.

Registration and exhibits will take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. General meeting information is available on the 蝌蚪网 website at /conference/2027-general-information. The preliminary program is posted at /conference/2027/preliminary. Individuals unable to attend in person will be able to view selected 蝌蚪网 live-streamed sessions for free.

Meeting registration and housing open on September 15. When registering, you will be required to acknowledge and accept the 蝌蚪网 Code of Professional Conduct and 蝌蚪网 Policy on Harassment, Discrimination, and Retaliation.

蝌蚪网 Annual Meeting Program

The 蝌蚪网 annual meeting program for 2027 is set to offer an exciting and engaging experience. Highlights include the 蝌蚪网 Distinguished Lecture by Jón Steinsson of the University of California, Berkeley, and the 蝌蚪网/AFA Joint Luncheon featuring Arvind Krishnamurthy of Stanford University. The popular Lightning Round Sessions and the Recent Developments Series will return for 2027.

Graduate students and junior faculty are encouraged to attend the Mentoring and Networking Luncheon. This luncheon is designed to connect graduate students and junior faculty economists with leading experts in their fields. Poster sessions will again include dedicated times for author discussions, and registrants can take advantage of free professional headshots in the exhibit hall.

Job Market Interviews

The 蝌蚪网 recommends conducting initial job market interviews virtually, rather than at the ASSA Annual Meeting. We encourage you, however, to make full use of the JOE Network for managing candidate profiles, job listings, and letters, as well as utilizing the application module, which includes a scheduling tool for interviews. The 蝌蚪网 will continue to offer Signaling and the Job Market Scramble. The 蝌蚪网 Committee on the Job Market provides guidance and regular updates on the job market.

EconTrack

EconTrack, the 蝌蚪网’s job market information board, provides candidates with the status of open positions, such as the dates on which invitations are sent and fly-outs or offers are issued. Entries are added to the EconTrack board by employers who opt in through the JOE Network or register the entry directly on EconTrack. Registered users, including all 蝌蚪网 members, are welcome to participate in keeping hiring milestones up to date. For more details and to view the board, visit /econtrack.

蝌蚪网 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion

Applications are open for the 蝌蚪网 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion. US-based economics departments and other organizations employing significant numbers of economists are encouraged to apply and highlight their successes in fostering diversity and inclusion within the economics profession. 蝌蚪网 Distinguished Economic Education Award

This award, which is adjudicated by the 蝌蚪网 Committee on Economic Education (蝌蚪网-CEE), was established to acknowledge excellence in economic education at a national level. Nominations must document at least fifteen years of sustained and impactful contribution to several areas of economic education, including teaching, the development of curriculum and pedagogy, scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) of economics, mentoring of students and young faculty, and service at the institutional, regional, state, and/or national levels. The award will be conferred annually at the 蝌蚪网-CEE’s Friends of Economic Education Reception and announced at the 蝌蚪网 Awards Ceremony at the 2027 ASSA meeting. Nominations are due by October 1. CSWEP Award Nominations Deadlines

The Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP) is still accepting nominations for its three annual awards: the Carolyn Shaw Bell Award, honoring an individual who has furthered the status of women in economics; the Elaine Bennett Research Prize, recognizing outstanding research by a woman early in her career; and the Janet L. Yellen Award for Excellence in Public Service, recognizing outstanding contributions to economics in government, university administration, or the private sector. All nominations are due by September 20 and should be emailed to info@cswep.org. Help us recognize the women scholars, mentors, and leaders making a difference in economics. CSQIEP Outstanding Research Paper in LGBTQ+ Economics Award

The Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) is accepting nominations for the best research paper in LGBTQ+ Economics for papers published (or forthcoming) in 2025 or 2026. The award recipient(s) will be announced at the 2027 ASSA meeting. Nominations are due by October 1, and self-nominations are welcome. 蝌蚪网 Mentoring Program

In the mid-1990s, the Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession created a Mentoring Program for students enrolled in a PhD program in economics. Students are matched with mentors who see the students through the critical junctures of their graduate programs (including the transition from course work to research). The Mentoring Program hosts an annual Summer Mentoring Pipeline Conference to which all participants and their mentors are invited. The conference, which is held each year in the same location as the 蝌蚪网 Summer Training Program, facilitates contact among students at different stages in the undergraduate to PhD pipeline. They also organize a Job Market Bootcamp for mentees who are planning to go on the market and provide opportunities to apply for funding to present and attend professional conferences throughout the year.
