The òòò½Íø and the economics profession were saddened to learn of the passing of at age 99. A , John Bates Clark medalist, and òòò½Íø Distinguished Fellow, the long-time professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was best known for his theories of economic growth. He showed that technological innovation, rather than increases in capital and labor, has been the primary driver of long-term economic growth.
In addition to having a distinguished academic career, he served as president of the òòò½Íø in 1979, as a vice president in 1968, and as a member of the òòò½Íø Executive Committee from 1964 to 1966. See the to learn more about Solow and his contributions to the economics profession.
