Subject: Call for Papers and Other Announcements
Call for Sessions and Papers for the 2023 蝌蚪网 Meeting. Members wishing to give papers or organize complete sessions for the 蝌蚪网 program at the 2023 ASSA meeting, to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 6-8, are invited to submit proposals electronically to Professor Susan Athey via the 蝌蚪网 website beginning March 1. While papers covering a wide array of topics in economics will be included on the 2023 program, Professor Athey especially encourages proposals on research about impacts of and policy responses to economic disruptions, with a special focus on labor markets. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2022 for individual papers and April 15, 2022 for complete sessions. The submission portal will open on March 1 at /conference/submissions.
Poster Presentations at the 2023 ASSA meetings. The 蝌蚪网 is planning a poster session in which accepted posters will remain on display throughout the conference. Poster sessions will be selected from individual papers submitted through the portal for which the presenter has agreed to be considered for a poster. Posters should be self-explanatory so they can be read without the author present. The 蝌蚪网 will offer assistance in arranging for the printing of posters.
Econ-Harmony helps prospective individual paper submitters for the 蝌蚪网 Annual Meetings find others with similar interests who might join them to form a complete session submission, and provides an opportunity to volunteer as a session chair. Sixteen percent of submitted complete sessions and seven percent of submitted individual papers appeared in sessions on the 2022 蝌蚪网 Annual Meeting Program. The Committee on Economic Statistics (蝌蚪网Stat) will sponsor three sessions on economic measurement at the 2023 ASSA Meetings. The committee solicits both individual papers and proposals for sessions of three or four papers, with preference given to full session proposals. The committee is interested in receiving submissions in any area of economic data and statistics. One of the three sessions will be published in the 蝌蚪网 Papers and Proceedings. Abstracts are due by April 1, 2022 to John Haltiwanger, Chair, Committee on Economic Statistics, at aeastat@aeapubs.org. Submissions should be PDF files and include name, institutional affiliation, and email address of all participants.
The 蝌蚪网 Committee on Economic Education is sponsoring a session of research papers on economic education at any level (undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, or pre-college) at the 2023 ASSA Meetings. Papers from this session will appear in the Papers and Proceedings, subject to editorial review and approval. To have a paper considered, submit an abstract of 250-500 words by March 15, 2022 to KimMarie McGoldrick, University of Richmond, kmcgoldr@richmond.edu. The Committee will also sponsor a poster session devoted to active learning strategies across the economics curriculum. Proposals are limited to two pages and are due by April 2, 2022. The eleventh annual 蝌蚪网 Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) is June 2 – 4, 2022 at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Illinois. The conference is hosted by the 蝌蚪网 Committee on Economic Education in conjunction with the Journal of Economic Education. We are pleased that the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank will co-sponsor the conference, providing a dinner and a keynote speaker (Anna Paulson). Plenary talks will also be given by Lisa Cook (Michigan State University) and Nancy Rose (MIT). A preliminary program, registration, and housing information for the conference will be available on February 15 at /about-aea/committees/economic-education/ctree/2022.
Expanding Diversity in Undergraduate Classes with Advancements in (the) Teaching (of) Economics (EDUCATE) Workshop. The 蝌蚪网 Outreach Task Force and the Committee on Economic Education are pleased to announce the EDUCATE workshop will be held in conjunction with the 蝌蚪网 2022 CTREE in Chicago, Illinois. The workshop will be conducted in-person with supporting structures and materials facilitated through Canvas beginning Friday, June 3, 2022 and concluding on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Nominations for 蝌蚪网 Journal Best Paper Awards are solicited. Awards will be announced in April 2022, selected from articles published in the 2019 - 2021 volumes of each AEJ. Nominate papers at /journals/aej/best-paper-nominations by February 15, 2022.
The Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) invites you to its Spring Seminar Series. Organized by CSQIEP committee member Mike Martell, this virtual seminar series, focusing on economics research relevant to LGBTQ+ people, occurs approximately every week on Tuesdays from 12-1 p.m. EST in a Zoom meeting format, beginning February 1. Individuals can for the email list to receive announcements and reminders. The spring schedule is posted at /about-aea/committees/aealgbtq/virtual-seminars. Students and allies are most welcome to attend and/or present.
The 蝌蚪网 Mentoring Program, established in the mid-1990s, is generously supported by the National Science Foundation. The program matches Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American economics PhD students and new PhD graduates with mentors in the field, and also facilitates networking between senior economists and students at all stages of the educational and career pipelines. The program also hosts a Summer Mentoring Pipeline Conference and provides limited funding to support the research and travel of the mentees, including presentations at major conferences.
